E.W. Grove was a man with big money and big visions for the tiny town of Asheville, North Carolina. Back in the early 1920s when he settled in the area, he created the historic Grove Park Inn then set his sights on invigorating the downtown. His idea to create the “most elegant building in America” culminated in the Grove Arcade, a new kind of retail center that would include a five-story base and a 14-story tower filled with shops, offices, and living spaces. It was a mall before its time.
Today the Grove Arcade is a popular destination and includes all manner of shops and eateries. One popular stop for a sweet bite and a cuppa joe is True Confections where the tastebuds are treated to made-from-scratch delights and the eyes are treated to sweeping hand-painted murals highlighted by cord-hung porcelain pendants. These pendants are very similar to our Ivanhoe™ Sky Chief 16″ Warehouse Porcelain Pendant, part of our collection of Porcelain Barn Lights.
The Sky Chief is patterned after our Goodrich™ Sky Chief Gooseneck Light both of which combine vintage lines and styling with a tough, baked-on porcelain enamel finish. The Sky Chief’s wide 16″ shade casts a generous amount of light thanks to its bright white interior. The shade comes in eight colors including classic bronze or black, bright cobalt blue or yellow, and even a creamy jadite. You can give your pendants an even more personal look by adding a cotton twist cord available in several colors. Take your fixture one rustic step further by adding a nostalgic Edison light bulb!
The real beauty of your new American made light will be evident in the years to come as your fixture will never fade, rust, or corrode. A simple soap and water cleanup is all that’s needed to keep the rugged glass coating looking brand new!
